Dear Intimidating, Inhospitable, Insurmountable Place,

I would like to beg you to show a shred of compassion for my girls. They may seem strong and independent, but really it is a facade. They are fragile and with one harsh word or aggressive look they can be broken. There are plenty of others that you can bully, so pick any one of them. If you need actual names, they can be provided.

It would be my pleasure to invite you to our home, once we have one. We would love to make your acquaintance and impress upon you what a wonderful family we are. I am sure that once you meet us you will realise that we are worthy of your compassion.

Fasting For A Change

The world moves at a fast pace, but not this girl... I am determined to slow down and have begun my new year by fasting. (I love the ironic symbolism) January will look differently this year and so will I. For almost four decades :) I have believed that discipline was a dirty word; a parenting tool used to reign in unruly children. Since I was one of those (*note intentional faulty pronoun reference) I developed a childhood rebellion of all things authoritative, which progressed into an adult routine. Strangely enough I became reacquainted with the term discipline thanks to an unruly child of my own. One day I was lecturing him on the linguistic nuances of the word "discipline." It seemed to me that he lacked it - and I, as his mentor, was determined to help him attain it - through my use of it. "What is it ?" Cultural Difference or Dyslexia? July 28, 2008 Eeiiienaohs chilg ughoe iechikl iyoowwywieo iioeoiuskei ieiiiioouuuwioiunghghhiw This jarring, howling azan (Muslim call to prayer) awakens me at 4:45am each day. Ian likens the song to that of a slow motion killing spree soundtrack, while I believe he’s been playing far too many M(mature rating) video games, I agree that the music is eerie. Each day this nation of Islam is called to prayer several times a day. While the city is full of women in baju kurng (traditional Muslim robes) and tudung (a head scarf) there rarely seems to be a prostrate soul at the city mosque in KL (Kuala Lumpur) Central Park. Now I state this in no way as a critique on their religious practice, more as a scientific observation.
